ÉRIGÉ PAR SOUSCRIPTION DES COMMUNES DE CERCY-LA-TOUR ET FOURS, VANDENESSE ET SAINT-HONORÉ-LES-BAINS


  • Les 10 et 11 juillet 1944, l'horreur de la barbarie nazie s'abattait sur les deux communes voisines de Montaron et Vandenesse. Tortures et exécutions sommaires ont fauché des maquisards à Corcelles et au Mousseau.

Historique

  • Alors que les armées alliées ont débarqué en Normandie depuis déjà un mois, le 10 juillet 1944, des troupes allemandes font un massacre à la ferme de Corcelles, sur la commune de Montaron. Puis elles emmènent avec elles quatre otages, Roger David, Claude Nicaise, Robert Moret et Jean Vallet.
  • Le lendemain dans la cité thermale, les témoins, enfants originaires de Saint-Honoré-les-Bains en vacances pour effectuer des travaux agricoles se souviennent. Il était 15 ou 16 h, il faisait très chaud. Une colonne de camions allemands passe dont le dernier stoppe, face au 22 avenue Eugène-Collin. Les prisonniers descendent, enchaînés aux pieds, les bras entravés par un morceau de bois. Dans un simulacre d'exécution, on laisse courir un des hommes pendant quelques dizaines de mètres dans l'allée des Garennes. Un officier change d'avis ; les quatre prisonniers sont exhibés dans le village entre deux colonnes de soldats allemands en file indienne. Dans un silence de plomb, ils prendront l'avenue d'Espeuilles et monteront jusqu'à la vieille montagne.
  • Le soir de ce 11 juillet, exténués, ils redescendront jusqu'aux Champs Blondiaux, où les Allemands leur font espérer la liberté avant de les exécuter en leur tirant dans le dos.
  • Les enfants de l'époque connaissaient particulièrement Robert Moret, chauffeur de car de la ligne régulière Nevers - Saint-Honoré-les-Bains. Ils furent les témoins tétanisés de l'horreur en ce jour de l'été 1944.
