C'est l'un des révélateurs utilisé par l'INSEE dans la récente livraison d'un ''portrait statistique de la Nièvre''. Ce chiffre ne vaut d'ailleurs que resitué dans l'évolution démographique générale du département. <br /> <br /> Une évolution qui se traduit par la perte de 8100 habitants entre 1990 et 1999 ! Baisse qui se produit aujourd'hui encore, au rythme d'environ 800 personnes par an. La raison essentielle se trouve dans l'importance du déficit dit « naturel » : chaque année, 3000 décès s'opposent à seulement 2200 naissances ! Le vieillissement de la population est l'autre conséquence induite. Un tiers de la population nivernaise a plus de 55 ans. Et toujours en 1999, l'âge moyen de la population s'élevait à 39 ans au plan national, à 40 ans au plan régional et à 43 ans dans la Nièvre !<br /> Enfin un autre déficit démographique tient dans la comparaison à établir entre « partants » et « nouveaux arrivants » : entre 1990 et 1999 36280 personnes sont arrivées alors que 35930 partaient sous d'autres cieux. La Nièvre perdant essentiellement des jeunes entre 18 et 25 ans (au moment des études) tandis que les arrivants se trouvent répartis en 3 pics d'âge : 30 ans, à la petite enfance et à 60 ans... pour une moyenne d'âge de 35 ans.<br /> <br /> <br /> '''Population et Territoire'''<br /> La population nivernaise ne représente que 14 % de la population régionale. Département le moins vaste de Bourgogne (6817 km²), la Nièvre a une densité de population de 33 habitants au km².
